The Stench of Politics

First we had the very peculiar circumstances of the candidacy of Alvin Greene and now we have Christine O’Donnell.

Many questions still exist around the Alvin Greene candidacy but the State of South Carolina has ruled all is fine. But the inconsistencies remain. Here is the Wikipedia entry. It offers absolutely nothing to enlighten voters that all is on the up and up.

Which bring us to Christine O’Donnell. How does a person with a 2009 declared income of just over $5000, a home in bankruptcy and no job mount a primary challenge for the US Senate? How does she even feed and clothe herself? I live a very frugal lifestyle but this scenario just doesn’t add up.

Here is a short excerpt from her Wikipedia entry.

In 2003, O’Donnell moved to Delaware to work for the conservative publisher Intercollegiate Studies Institute (ISI) in Hockessin, and bought a house in Wilmington.[8][16] She registered a gender discrimination complaint against ISI with the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC), after which she was terminated by ISI in 2004.[8] She then sued the institute in in the federal court for $6.9 million for wrongful termination claiming that she had been fired in retaliation for filing the discrimination complaint and due to ISI’s conservative philosophy that women must be subordinate to men. She said that because of ISI’s actions had endured mental anguish,[8][17] and would lose future financial earning power because ISI’s actions would delay her education. She falsely claimed to have been accepted into a master’s degree program at Princeton University; in actuality, she had not yet received a bachelor’s degree from Fairleigh Dickinson.[18] ISI defended its action by accusing her of having conducted a for-profit public-relations business while on their time.[8] O’Donnell dropped the suit in 2008, stating she could no longer afford an attorney.[8][16][19]

In 2008, she was unable to pay the mortgage for her Wilmington house and the mortgage company gained a judgment against her for $90,000; the house was due to be sold at a sheriff’s auction in August 2008 when she sold it the month prior to her campaign’s lawyer.[8] The IRS has filed a lien and said that O’Donnell owes $11,000 in back taxes, but O’Donnell says that it was a mistake and a “computer error.”[20] O’Donnell noted that the IRS agent handling the matter claimed he was perplexed by the agency’s actions.[8] She listed herself as self-employed and said she was doing “odd jobs” to make ends meet.[8]

O’Donnell, who is single,[21] has worked as a marketing consultant;[16] She has provided political commentary on numerous Fox News television programs, such as The O’Reilly Factor,[22] The Live Desk,[23] and Glenn Beck.[24] She has been supportive of the Right to Life and made negative comments toward pornography and premarital sex.[16][19]

Why are people (republicans) endorsing a person with such a dubious record to sit in the US Senate? Does the country really want people like this in high public office? What the hell is going on?
